Today’s Wonderful Word: “aleatory.”

Definition: relating to or denoting music or other forms of art involving elements of random choice (sometimes using statistical or computer techniques) during their composition, production, or performance.

Etymology: Aleatory evolved to mean “of uncertain outcome, depending on a contingent event,” literally “depending on the throw of a die,” from the 1690s, from Latin aleatorius “pertaining to a gamester,” from aleator “a dice player,” from alea “a game with dice.”

As the year comes to an end, let’s be smart together. Consider the SMART method for your goals in the coming year. Set specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely goals, ones that are well-defined, quantifiable, achievable, purposeful, and temporal.

Another focus to consider in goal-making is kaizen. Originating in Japan, the concept of kaizen, translated to “continuous improvement” and rooted in words meaning “good” and “change,” is a dictating force in my life. Introduce kaizen practices to eliminate inefficiencies and enhance your skills by 1% every chance you get.

Since I’ll be taking another year off from blogging, I figured I’d drop a few miscellaneous tidbits here. Please enjoy three aleatory elements emerging from year-end organization of alienated notes pages.

I wish you a wonderful Wednesday, a peaceful year end, and a happy new year to come.
