Amusing Amalgamation

Amuse-bouche:

“Bye! Have a great day. And stay out of the kitchen! Leave the peach cobbler alone!”

I couldn’t help myself. I sneaked into the kitchen and watched him. Watched him make his stupid little peach shoes.

“Nobody’s going to wear those,” I said under my breath. “They’re stupid.”

But on he worked.

Today’s Wonderful Word: “zedonk.”

Definition: Zedonk the offspring of a zebra and a donkey.

Etymology:  Zedonk was first recorded in 1970-75, and like the animal it refers to, is a combination of zebra and donkey. Zebra comes from the Portuguese word zebra, “wild Iberian ass.” Donkey is of uncertain origin, perhaps an alteration of Dunkey, a nickname for Duncan. Donkey could also be a form of dun, “dull, grayish brown.”

Example: The exotic animal farm always had at least three zedonks at one time along with purebred zebras.

Ladies and gentleman skinny and scout

I’ll tell you a tale I know nothing about

The admission is free so pay at the door

Now pull out a chair and sit on the floor

On one bright day in the middle of the night

Two dead boys got up to fight

Back to back they faced each other

Drew their swords and shot each other

The blind man came to see fair play

The mute man came to shout hooray

The deaf policeman heard the noise

And came to stop those two dead boys

He lived on the corner in the middle of the block

In a two story house on a vacant lot

A man with no legs came walking by

And kicked the lawman in his thigh

He crashed through a wall without making a sound

Into a dry creek bed and suddenly drowned

A long black hearse came to cart him away

But he ran for his life and is still gone today

I watched from the corner of the table

The only eyewitness to facts of my fable

If you doubt my lies are true

Just ask the blind man, he saw it too

Answer to Saturday’s riddle:

9-7-2-14-11-5-4-12-13-3-6-10-15-1-8

Explanation: The possible squares are 4, 9, 16 and 25, since the sum of the largest two numbers is 15 + 14 = 29, which is less than 36. We can work out the possible pairs of adjacent numbers, which sum to these squares:

4: 1+3

9: 1+8, 2+7, 3+6, 4+5

16: 1+15, 2+14, 3+13, 4+12, 5+11, 6+10, 7+9

25: 10+15, 11+14, 12+13
