Today’s Wonderful Word: “petrichor.”
Definition: a distinctive scent, usually described as earthy, pleasant, or sweet, produced by rainfall on very dry ground.
Etymology: Petrichor is based on two Ancient Greek words: pétros, meaning “stone,” and īchṓr, the name of an ethereal fluid that the gods of Greek mythology had instead of blood in their veins. This scent results from certain types of rocks and soils releasing a plant-derived oil during rainfall.

Answer to Saturday’s riddle:
Two people are in a hot air balloon. Their planned course involves passing over a mountaintop. There is a problem with their fuel supply, and it begins to run short. It becomes evident that they will crash into the mountain, as they cannot lift the balloon any higher. To reduce the weight of the basket, they first toss out one of their suitcases. This brings them to a higher altitude, but they see it is not high enough to clear the mountain. They toss the other suitcase out, and they see they are still destined to crash. In order to save one of their lives, they draw straws. The loser must jump so the winner can live and clear the mountaintop.
