Climb Time (Part 2)

Today’s quote:

Sometimes the greatest treasures are found in the spaces in between.

Whether it’s riddles, puzzles, and brain teasers; mysteries, stories, and series; systems, techniques, and processes; or history, current events, and future predictions, I enjoy understanding. I feel at home when gathering information and analyzing pieces to form a bigger picture. Patterns and theories and games are all around us. Bits and pieces, hints and clues lie in the spaces in between.

Boulder problems beckon for those willing to discover their solutions. Standing on the ground, staring at the holds that make up the route, visualizing a sequence of efficient moves and body positioning, anticipating the moment I reach the top and contemplating the limited methods by which I can get there – these things keep me motivated and passionate about climbing.

Which muscles demand more attention? How do I approach the holds on different angles, different grips, different slopes? The intricacy of subtle shifts in body positioning. The balancing act in weight distribution. The searing fire and burning pain inflicting my forearms, fingers, and toes. These are reasons why I love (and sometimes hate) the time I spend off the ground.

Bouldering problems are rated on a V scale from VB to V17. Most climbers can’t complete problems more challenging than V8, so indoor climbing gyms often don’t set routes above V10 difficulty. I’d say average climbers in a climbing gym max out somewhere in the V3-V5 range.

Riddle:

You are in a room with no windows. In the room are two omniscient computers, one of which is able only to respond with a truthful answer, the other of which is able only to respond with an untruthful answer. In the room are two doors, one of which leads to freedom, the other of which leads to certain death. You are allowed to ask one computer one question. With your goal being to escape the room, what do you ask?
